More about this artwork:
This fern-haired fairy was inspired by the maiden hair fern, Adiantum raddianum, It’s one of the ferns I find easier to identify by its characteristic fan-shaped leaves and thin black stems that inspired the common name. “Adiantum” is from the greek “adiantos” meaning “unwetted” because water rolls off these leaves with out leaving them wet. I imagine her living quietly in the shady forest, blending in to the foliage whenever people walk by. Ferns are some of the oldest land plants; they evolved 360 million years ago and have no flowers, fruits, or roots.
